A new EU funding opportunity could help shipowners take energy-saving technologies from potential to real vessel performance. Njord is looking for suitable vessels to participate. 

The European Commission has opened a new HorizonEurope call focused on demonstrating how renewable energy solutions and energy-saving technologies can be combined to reduce fuel consumption onboard ships. 

With an indicative €6.5 million EU budget, the call is designed to support a large-scale demonstration project using real vessels and operational data. The focus is on moving beyond individualtechnology assessments and demonstrating what integrated solutions can deliverin practice. 

For shipowners, this could be an opportunity to explore and demonstrate energy-saving measures within an EU-funded project,with the wider project development and coordination supported by the consortium partners. 

‍From individual technologies to the full vessel picture
 The call focuses on combining different energy-saving and renewable energy solutions and demonstrating their performance under real operating conditions. Potential solutions could include wind-assisted propulsion, hull and propeller optimization, air lubrication, machinery efficiency measures and other technologies that can contribute to reducing fuel consumption.

A practical opportunity for shipowners 
‍Njord is exploring participation in the project and is looking to connect suitable vessels with the wider project and technology partners. This builds on the work we already do with shipowners: assessing energy-saving technologies based on vessel-specific data, potential fuel savings, investment economics and operational conditions. We can help assess the potential, identify relevant solutions and work through how the vessel could fit into the wider demonstration.
